About Macbeth
Vancouver Opera is proud to bring this international sensation to Vancouver. Produced by the much-heralded South African company Third World Bunfight, this vibrant, dark and visceral interpretation sets Shakespeare's story of greed, tyranny and remorse in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This will be only the third time this production has appeared in North America, having drawn accolades from critics around the globe.

About Third World Bunfight
Third World Bunfight has a mission to create and present innovative, multi-layered, deeply considered performance and installation works of excellence, both locally and internationally; works that reveal the beauty, the wonder, the darkness and the tragedy of our world. This avant-garde South African theatre troupe is dedicated to exploring the terrifying crises that confront sub-Saharan Africa today. For this production, Belgian composer Fabrizio Cassol has rewritten and adapted Verdi’s well-known score.

The performance will last approximately 1 hours and 40 minutes, with no intermission.

In Italian with English SURTITLESTM

Presented with PuSh International Performing Arts Festival and IL CENTRO Italian Cultural Centre

Whose Story is it to Tell? Documentary Screening and Panel Discussion.
Vancouver Playhouse
January 10 at 7:00pm

In the build up to our presentation of Verdi's Macbeth, get a behind-the-curtain look at Third World Bunfight's acclaimed adaptation with a screening of Tomorrow x 3. Directed by Catherine Henegan, this provocative, timely documentary follows three principle South African singers from the production as they navigate the predominately European world of opera at home and abroad. This event—the first in our new series that examines the complexities of presenting traditional opera to modern audiences—will also feature a panel discussion about politics, culture, and race in the arts, led by key players in the Vancouver cultural scene.
