Upcoming Changes to Vancouver Opera’s Education Programming

Exciting changes are coming to Vancouver Opera’s in-school education programming! As part of our ongoing commitment to expanding access to opera across the Lower Mainland, we are restructuring our offerings to bring impactful and engaging experiences to even more students.

Introducing Opera in Class

Starting in the 2025–2026 school year, Vancouver Opera will transition away from the Project Opera model and launch Opera in Class, a new initiative that provides more schools with opportunities to experience live opera in their classrooms. This program will feature:

  • Individual Artist Sessions – A single visit with a professional opera singer or teaching artist, offering live performance, discussion, and interactive engagement.

  • Two-Session Mini Projects – A hands-on, guided learning experience where students work with a teaching artist across two class visits to develop and present a short creative project.

Why the Change?

This new structure allows us to: ✔️ Visit a greater number of schools across the region. ✔️ Offer shorter, high-impact sessions that require no additional preparation outside of class time. ✔️ Provide flexible learning experiences that align with B.C.’s arts education curriculum.

Booking Information

Bookings for Opera in Class will officially open in April/May 2025. Schools across the Lower Mainland will be invited to secure a session for the upcoming school year. More details will be shared soon! For inquiries or to receive updates on Opera in Class, please contact Ashley Daniel Foot at afoot@vancouveropera.ca. We are excited to bring this new model to classrooms and continue sharing the magic of opera with students!
