YVR Student Dress Rehearsal

Teachers and music educators are invited to book groups of students. We invite grade 4-12 students.

One teacher or adult chaperone may be purchased at the same price per 10 student tickets.

A Study Guide for each production will be made available through our website in advance of the dress rehearsal.

The study guide will include a synopsis of the story, background information on the production and conversations with the artists and production team about the creative process of producing an opera. Designed for use in the classroom, the study guide will provide students with a window into the music, the story and the spectacle of the opera in advance of the performance.

Project Opera is a highly interactive program for students that brings the magic of opera into the classroom. Students and teachers will work in collaboration with Teaching-Artists from Vancouver Opera to write, stage and perform their own opera based on source material from the classroom.

Elementary – Grades Two to Seven

Inspiration can come from anywhere – retell the story of a class novel, delve into the experiences of Canadian history or explain the water cycle through song – anything and everything can be explored through opera!

Secondary – Grades Eight to Ten

With a deeper focus on song writing and building personal connections, Project Opera has been developed and modified for secondary students with a focus on the humanities and Indigenous education.

Program length: 5 to 6 weeks
Session: 2 sessions per week of up to one hour (10 hours total)
Classes: Program includes two classes in one school
Program fee: $500 (plus tax where applicable)
