Vancouver Opera offers a rich array of engaging programming for children and youth that seeks to fulfill our mission of “nurturing hearts, opening minds and broadening creativity through opera.”


With valid student ID, rush tickets are now available for both the dress rehearsals and select performances during the run of each opera. One ticket per person and ID must be presented before tickets are released.

Student rush tickets are $25 and are available for purchase on the day of select performances at the theatre box office between 330 and 5pm only. Follow Vancouver Opera on social media for updates on which performances will be available.

Dress rehearsal tickets are $19. To purchase dress rehearsal tickets, call the Vancouver Opera Ticket Centre 604 683-0222. Tickets will be made available at will call 90 minutes before the rehearsal begins.


An opportunity to see a working dress rehearsal before opening night! Teachers and music educators are invited to book for groups of students. One teacher or adult chaperone ticket may be purchased per ten student tickets.

A Study Guide for each production will be made available through our website in advance of the dress rehearsal. This resource will include a synopsis of the story, background information on the production and conversations with the artists and production team about the creative process involved in producing the opera.

Designed for use in the classroom, the study guide will provide students with a window into the music, the story and the spectacle of a main-stage production in advance of the performance.

NEW  to our 2017-18 season is a FREE 45-minute in-classroom workshop. The workshop covers the story and background of the opera and is lead by a Vancouver Opera Education Team member. This offer is only available to metro-Vancouver classrooms. Contact to book your free workshop. Limited availability.

Project Opera is a highly interactive program for students in grades two through seven that brings the magic of opera into the classroom. Students and teachers will work in collaboration with Teaching-Artists from Vancouver Opera to write, stage and perform their own opera based on source material from the classroom.

Inspiration can come from anywhere – retell the story of a class novel, delve into the experiences of early settlers to British Columbia or explain the water cycle through song – anything and everything can be explored through opera! Project Opera is a new and innovative way to bring the performing arts into Metro Vancouver schools.

Registration is now open for the 2017-2018 school year!

Program length: 6 weeks
Session: 2 sessions per week of up to one hour (12 hours total)
Grades: Grades 2 and up
Classes: Program includes two classes in one school
Program fee: $500 plus GST

An intense three-week accredited program.

Open to Grade 11 and 12 students in Metro Vancouver, this program is designed for students considering a professional or amateur career in the arts. Participants will watch rehearsals, interview cast and production staff, and have full backstage access to the opera of their choice: Turandot, L’Elisir d’amore,or Eugene Onegin.

This program is in high demand – priority is given to Grade 12 students with a proven dedication to the performing and visual arts.

Look behind the curtain to learn what it takes to stage an opera. Classes will participate in a in-school workshop with professional artists from across the wide variety of art forms that come together to create opera. Students will also receive a backstage tour of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre or the Vancouver Playhouse before attending a performance.

Joining the Delta School District’s roster of other Academies, this program gives high school students who love to sing, act and create the opportunity to work with professionals from Vancouver Opera and with educators specializing in music and theatre.

Registration opens February 1st, 2018 for the September 2018 program.

The Performance Academy with Vancouver Opera is located at Delta Secondary School and open to all grade 8 – 12 students in the Delta and other school districts. Students in the program will earn credits towards graduation. Transportation from Delta secondary schools is available.

For two blocks every second afternoon, students who love theatre and music will be able to pursue their passions by studying voice, acting, script and score writing and attending master classes with professionals. Students in the Academy will also attend Vancouver Opera dress rehearsals, go backstage, have opportunities to participate in apprenticeship programs and participate in the Vancouver Opera Festival 2018.
