NOVEMBER 3, 2021, Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Opera is pleased to announce three new appointments to the Board of Directors, Human Alghabi, Milton Carrasco, and Valerie Jerome. They are coming onboard at a pivotal time in the organization’s history. Having completed a comprehensive visioning process, Vancouver Opera is poised to begin strategic planning for the next three years.
“We are delighted to have these three dynamic individuals join our board,” said Tom Wright, Vancouver Opera, General Director. “Their individual experience and expertise will be instrumental for the organization, and they join the board during an exciting and important time for Vancouver Opera.”
Continuing Board of Directors include Richard Rees (Chair), Susan Van der Flier (Vice Chair), Roger Flowerdew (Treasurer), Krista Johanson (Secretary), Mass Abedi, Amrita Ahuja, Meera Bawa, Catherine Dangerfield, Kirk LaPointe, Pierre Lebel, Maria Leone, Jennifer Muench, Jan Sampson, Carol Tsuyuki, Alexi White, Andrea Wood and Nancy Wu.

Human Alghabi brings over 25 years’ experience in the financial service industry to the board. He is a member of the Vancouver Board of Trade and has previously served as a board member of the North Shore Multicultural Society and Enhance West Vancouver. As an active community supporter, he’s involved in fundraising activities for organizations such as the Run for the Cure and JDRF.
Named CEO of the Year (Small Business) by Business in Vancouver in 2020, Milton Carrasco brings decades of business development experience to Vancouver Opera. Milton has volunteered with numerous community and charity organizations including the Richmond Hospital Foundation, the University of Florida Transportation Institute, and Richmond Chamber of Commerce Transportation Committee.
Recognized as one of UBC’s Faculty of Education’s 100 Distinguished Graduates, long-time Vancouver resident Valerie Jerome joins the Vancouver Opera Board of Directors. Since retiring from teaching, Valerie has spent her time involved in politics and founding the Harry Jerome Commemorative Society. She currently sits on the Board of Crystal Pite’s Kidd Pivot Dance company and has recently become a Board member of Springboard, an international dance program for emerging choreographers and dancers based in Montreal and New York.
